Hi there! Welcome to Wildlife History.

I am an environmental historian and this blog is all about wildlife in the United States. I grew up camping and fishing in the Midwest hearing coyotes howl all around me. At the time, I didn’t think much about them. I wasn’t afraid of them even though the howls were a bit spooky on winter nights. In college, I discovered Coyote America: A Natural and Supernatural History by historian Dan Flores. It reshaped my perspective on coyotes and frankly every predator we share the landscape with. I’ve been on a decade-long research journey exploring the history and ecology of bears, coyotes, wolves, otters, and many other species. Now, I want to share my findings with the world!
Like Thomas Jefferson, I believe our nation's wildlife holds its own anywhere else on Earth. They were battered in the first 150ish years of the Republic but thanks to many hardworking passionate people, everything from deer to grizzly bears to paddlefish came roaring back starting in the early 20th century. My goal with this website is simple. I love animals of all shapes and sizes and I want to share that love with readers. I can’t guarantee a regular publishing schedule but I hope you subscribe (feature tba) to get notified of any new articles.
